Kindergarten Connection

Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa

                         Announcements

We had a great first week of school with our phase-in schedule! Thank you for all your help with this transition for your child. Beginning Tuesday, we will all be together from here on out! I'm anxious to have everyone meet each other and begin to build our community. I can see already that we have a wonderful group and will have a great year together!

This week all students will meet all our specials teachers. Music-Mrs. Richards, Gym-Mrs. Kovac, Art-Mrs. Warsaw, Library/STEM-Mrs. Hassenger and Mrs. Johnson and Social Emotional Learning-Mrs. Cunningham.

Learning routines and procedures for Brown School and our classroom are going well. I know it is a lot for these little ones so we try to do this in small bites.

If you dare, take a look at the Big Green Monsters we made last week in the hallway outside our room. We had loads of fun with these and love that each is so unique.

Our classroom is decorated by all the beautiful, carefully chosen, names of your children. We learned that our name was the first gift our parents ever gave us from the book, Chrysanthemum ☺.

Please make sure to look in your child’s folder every day and remove papers. Important papers and work are sent home often.

The folder is a great way to send back notes to me as well. I have the children check their folders every morning. Reminder that folders need to come to school every day. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Each child needs a pair of labelled headphones (not ear buds) and an Art shirt (a grown-up's old t-shirt works best).

I placed our September Leader/Events calendars in the back cover pocket of your child's folder. Children in the M and W

group received the wrong leader day calendar. I mistakenly began with Monday, 9/1, instead of T, 9/2. 😬 Those children will get

the revised schedule on Tuesday. Sorry about that. Please reference this for important events and your child's day to be leader

and provide snacks.

Our September Homework calendar came home as well. If your child does at least 3 tasks each week, it may be signed and

returned for a trip to the Treasure Chest. 😃

This from Mr. Hernandez--

For the safety of all our students, we've implemented a policy that only school staff are allowed on the playground during drop-off. Unfortunately, we cannot screen every adult who enters the area, which poses a risk to our students. This is a common practice at other elementary schools, and it ensures that only trusted, screened individuals are in close proximity to the children. We understand your concerns and appreciate your understanding as we work to keep everyone safe.

Snack and Leaders

Your child will come home with the Leader bag the night before his/her leader day. There is a notebook inside with directions for sharing both a snack with the class and a Show and Tell item. Please refer to the calendar in the back of your child's take home folder for leader and other important dates. I will place the monthly calendars in the folders each month for your reference.

We have 24 children in our class.

We have a child with a nut allergy in our class so please refrain from sending snacks with nuts of any kind.

We will snack in the morning each day. It is not necessary for you to send a snack with your child, as the leader provides it each day.  Thank you for sending a leak-proof water bottle with your child each day.

Next Week Events

This Wednesday is our first one hour late start. If your bus usually comes at 7:45 it will be coming at 8:45, the first bell for students to line up is at 9:30 instead of 8:30 and so on. (There is supervision available if you are needing to continue and drop your student off at Brown School at 8:15.)

Info about learning apps and logins will be coming in the next few weeks.

In the next couple weeks we will practice our first fire, tornado and lock down drills. The students and I will talk about the importance of these safety drills and why we practice them. Please know that I will be careful not to scare the children, just inform. I wish they weren't necessary too.

School Picture Day is on Tuesday, September 16th.

Thank you for sending me these great kids each day! It is going to be a wonderful year ☺.
