Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa

                         Happy New Year!


I hope you all have had a memorable holiday break spent with family and friends. We certainly had weather of all kinds allowing for many different activities and fun. I look forward to hearing from each of your children about their time away. I have missed them. 😊


December Homework calendars are welcome back this week for a trip to the Treasure Chest.


Please remember to --

  • Send a leak-proof, water bottle each day.
  • Dress your child for the weather of the day-snow pants, boots, hat and mittens.
  • Send shoes each day to change into for inside time (leaving a pair at school is fine).
  • Empty your child's folder each day.
  • Return Library books by Wednesday of each week.
  • Wear gym shoes each Friday for gym class.
  • Send snow gear in a large plastic bag for safe keeping.

Snack and Leaders

Your child will come home with the Leader bag the night before his/her leader day. There is a notebook inside with directions for sharing both a snack with the class and a Show and Tell item. Please refer to the calendar in the back of your child's take home folder for leader and other important dates.

We have a child with a nut allergy in our class so please refrain from sending snacks with nuts of any kind.

We will snack in the morning each day. Sending 1 snack is plenty as our lunch time is later in the day. It is not necessary for you to send a snack with your child, as the leader provides it each day.

Next Week Events


We will take both portions of the NWEA assessment in the next 2 weeks. It is midyear, so it is time to measure the growth of our students. You will receive the results with the T2 progress reports. Please don't place too much importance upon these scores. At this level the results aren't completely valid due to user error, etc. 


On Thursday morning we will be given an age appropriate lesson on Safe Touch from the experts of the Children's Advocacy Center. Your child will come home with a coloring book which gives parents the concepts and vocabulary used to teach this important subject. We are fortunate to have this resource in our district. Be sure to ask your child about this.

Tuesday, January 20-Trip to our Upton Planetarium. We are so blessed to have this as part of our school system! It is amazing!


Friday, January 30-100th Day of School Celebration!!

Our kiddos did a nice job of staying focused and following directions. This is strictly a baseline and also a first for these students. We will take the Math piece next week. The results will come home with progress reports at the end of the Trimester. It has been fun getting the hang of Table and Math Centers in our room. The children are making good choices and enjoying the experiences. Table centers reinforce skills from any of our curriculum areas.   Kindergarten Connection Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa                               Last Week If you are able, please send your assigned item Gingerbread item to school on Monday. I will be shopping for any needed items a items after school. You can also let me know if you are sending your item on Tuesday so I don't pick up unneeded things.. There is still time to get those Christmas trees in. They decorate our hallway so beautifully 🎄. Our class sizes has had some changes the last couple of weeks. Our Jaycion went to a different class and we are getting a new student on Monday. We are happy to welcome Ian to our class and look forward to helping him to feel welcomed.  Our class size is 25 children again now 😊.     Kindergarten Connection Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa                            Last Week My goodness the end of the year has come so quickly. The students have been anxious to help with packing up and cleaning the room. I can't speak to what happens at home, but each one of them is very helpful and great at cleaning and organizing. It has been fun working as a team getting our room ready for summer! Step Up Day was a big hit on Thursday. Our class spent 15 ish minutes with Mrs. Brown and 15 in Mrs. Miller's class. They got a small taste of what 1st grade will be like.  Ask your child what he/she learned about 1st grade.  Summer Reading Challenge information went home with the Book Bonanza books.
